The Pharmacy Revolution Started
After the complaints about some misleading advertisings, the Estonian Minister of Social Affairs is back on the behavior of pharmaceutics companies with a brand new regulation that might start changing the habits of drug-consumers.
Trying to preserve the right of Estonian patients to receive the most effective – and cheapest –treatment, the new regulation entered into force last week one week ago obliges pharmacies to offer to their customers the cheapest medicines possible when prescriptions are issued on the basis of active ingredients and not with the specific name of the medicine.
To avoid some easy ways to skip the regulation, the Ministry of Social Affairs also specified that specific medicines can be prescribed only when no other similar medicines are suitable for the patient for medical reasons.
