Did YOU Update Your Data at the Population Registry?
Soon the Estonian Parliament might have to discuss a legislative proposal from the Government aimed to sanction all the citizens that do not inform the Population Registry of their movements.
According to what reported today by the national daily Eesti Paevaleht, the proposal would in fact grant the State to act against individuals asking them to refund all the costs related to the failure to update their data in the population registry.
According to the Estonian Minister of Regional Affairs Mr. Siim Valmar Kiisler, in Estonia there is a quite significant number of situations where the population registry reports wrong data about residency of people and this implies both inefficiency in the communication within citizens and useless expenses for finally reaching the real data about people.
At the moment the current legislation allows the State to pose fines to people only if if they knowingly submit wrong data to the population registry, a condition that according the Ministry of Justice means expenses for millions of kroons since the number of people not updating their data can be calculated in several thousands.
The Defence Resources Board alone sends hundreds of registered letters each month that never reach the addressee. The state also suffers losses because officials, judges and police have to work extra hours to find these people.

it would be easier if the whole thing was in English… therefore I still live in Tartu…
unfortunately I agree…But i guess the fear of fines will motivate me to regulate also my situation…
