Ansip: “Three Marathons in Four Weeks”. And the Government?
Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip is going to compete in three marathons in just four weeks.
The first one will be the Sapporo ski marathon 50-kilometres freestyle cross-country event on February 14th in Japan – a marathon that will not miss to have some political implications since the they after the event PM Ansip will meet with Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama in order to strength the economic and political ties between Japan and Estonia.
On February 21st, exactly one week after the Sapporo event, the active Estonian Prime Minister will also compete in the 63-kilometre Tartu ski Marathon, joining the event in the Estonian university town.
The last efforts are then to be saved for the 7th of March, when he will head to Poland for the Bieg Piastow 50-kilometres free-style cross-country ski event.
According with the Estonian Government spokeswoman, Ansip will cover all the costs of attending these marathons out of his own pocket and not using public money even if, seen the great shape of the Prime Minister and the conditions of the country he will be leaving for his sports events in Japan and Poland, one might argue that the Estonian Prime Minister might also start thinking more about the life of his Government and –perhaps – less about his love for sports.

Well I agree with you David on the last sentence… if he could just put as much efforts in his political job as in sports, Estonia would be probably much better off by now.
Regarding the expenses so to say covered by his own pocket, I suspect he will not pay the visit to Japan since he's also going there for "business".
I do agree that in some ways, as the head of the government he should maybe pay more attention to the policy instead of some sport event participation, but should one man stop what he loves just to please some journalists ? And about the expenses of the Japan's trip, He would have been there anyway, so why debating about something which is not relevant
Criticizing his policy why not, but his hobbies i don't see the point.
Do you have any facts to backup your claims, like is Ansip working less to train for skying?
If not, I think the man is allowed to do what he wants in his free time, and if we likes skying all fine.
Why shouldn't he be allowed to compete? He isn't working 24/7 and what he does with his free time is his own choice. Personally I think he is a good role model in a world where most adults are overweight (especially politicians).
