No one will ever know if this came as a reward for his speech against Estonian press, but .

After his recent openings towards Russia and the troublesome Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip, Ilves has been congratulated by Ansip himself who stated that “Reform Party estimates that President Toomas Hendrik Ilves has been a brilliant spokesperson for Estonia in the world and he continue sto be the best head of state there in the Estonian state today.”

Even if it is still unclear whether Mr. Ilves will decide to go for a second Presidential mandate or not, it seems unlikely to happen that he will miss the chance to leave his residency in Kadriorg to some newcomers.

After having to reconsider his European ambitions after the choice of Mr. Van Rompuy and Ms. Ashton at the head of an European Union he would have bargained with Estonia without too many regrets, Ilves slowly embraced the road of a realpolitik that today gave him his first reward with the open support of the Reform Party.

By rising issues as cooperation between Baltic States and improvement of the relations with Russia using the magic card of the relation between democracy and journalism as a jolly, the Estonian President went back on the front pages refreshing his image of wisest among the wise ones and took a powerful loan for 2011 elections.

“We expect President Ilves to continue standing for these values in the second term of office too” declared Ansip clarifying that neither him nor his party know about the real intentions of the President.
