Queues at the Russian Border Might Scare Tourists

The publisher of Petersburg’s newspaper Moi Rajon, Grigori Kunis, crossed the Estonian-Russian border in Narva yesterday evening.

In his estimation, the queue to get to Russia was already nearly 24 hours and „This is the kind of situation that makes you reconsider several times whether to go to Estonia next time or not,“ he said.

“There might have been around 550 cars in the queue which means something like nearly 20 hours of waiting if we consider the pace of crossing the border,” told Kunin. ” Yesterday you had the chance to book border crossing for not earlier than 10th of January.”

” As far as I know, the border crossing yesterday was slowed down by the Russian side. Before the Estonian border crossing stop there were only four or five cars in front of us and they just could not go on to the bridge. It took about 40 minutes. I asked, why and they said that the Russians did not allow them to go.”

“At the Russian border crossing stop there were only two check-points and they worked really slowly. There was only one border guard and the handling of each car took about 7 minutes. All information was hand-typed into the computer which also took time.”

” I am afraid that most of the people who spent New Year’s Eve in Russia will return after a couple of days and then the queues will be even longer,” thought Kunil.
