Luxury Cars Are Leaving Estonia
Currently Bentleys, Lamborghinis, Hummers are hardly seen on streets in Tallinn and its vicinity. The dramatically falling number of car sales in Estonia has become shocking.
The number of new registered European luxurious cars is constantly falling down. Eesti Ekspress mentioned that “in 2009, a total of 9,948 new cars were registered in Estonia, 24,590 news cars were registered in 2008, as the record of 2007 was 30,916”.
New twenty Hummers were purchased in 2008 but later, only two were found while no record of owned Lamborghini or Bentleys.
And the same happened to other common European cars brands as BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, and Audi are also confronting with its downturn which could be recovered when domestic economy becomes recuperated as well as others essential factors.
Unluckily the negative trend it is not an exclusive of Estonia as also the neighbor countries, Lithuania and Latvia, are facing the same situation of diminishing car sales and, even with bigger population involved the ratio of their population and cars sales are incredibly out of balance, even worse than in Estonia.
Consequence of the downturn it seems to be also an always increasing interest towards used second hand cars. CEO of Balti Realiseerimiskeskus, Hallar Loogma said that “ in the last two months of the sale of second-hand cars has increased strongly and our warehouse is empty”, “ the Finns and Swedes are mostly looking for second hand cars that are younger than 3 years old.
From another side of the world, a Chinese car manufacturer is focusing on beating up car market in Europe with its first car sale in Baltic region in 2011. Those Chinese cars probably make the cars market in Estonia become livelier with its attractive affordable price, appropriated with the current economy downturn.
