Will Google Take Skype Over?

Will Google Take Skype Over? thumbnail

Google VoiceGoogle, the internet giant recently rated as the most powerful brand in the world, spent $30 million to buy Gizmo5, the VoIP technology alternative to Skype.

This purchase has been made with the objective to improve Google Voice, as Gizmo will allow the Google-made platform to be able to call to conventional PSTN telephone – something GVoice cannot do yet.

Using this technology Google will try to compete with Skype and the almost monopoly in the VoIP communication the Estonian company benefitted until now.

Guizmo5 got also the attentions of eBay, one of the Skype’s owners, but the deal did not succeed and now, with the giant from Mountain View putting his hands on the telecommunication market  – right after the first round of Android based phones – a new revolution might be close to come.
