Thanks to the cuts, employees will have to pay for the parties

Usually Christmas is a celebration time but also a time when consumerism is triggered.

Well, this year when discussing about the entry of Estonia into the euro area and the budget cuts that come with it, have led to the country’s ministries choose not to celebrate the Christmas holidays to save unnecessary expenses.

So for example the Ministry of Defense, through its spokesman Peeter Kuimer, said that they will not organize or finance any Christmas or New Year’s party.

Other departments as Social Minister or Finance Minister have considered other options like making a party only for employees’ children or just convene a formal annual meeting before noon.

Meanwhile, Ministries of Education, Science, Economics and Communications and Interior will make parties but their employees will have to pay for them

The remaining ministries; Agriculture, Justice, Foreign and Culture, have not yet decided whether there will be a Christmas party or how it will be.
