Fashion Between Independence and Femmes Fatales

The 4th November fashion designers Lilli Jahilo and Kristina Viirpalu aunveiled their new collections in the restaurantfashion Gianni, few steps from Narva mnt and the event took place within the Tallinn Fashion Week framework.

Lilli Jahilo is a fashion designer with the background from the Estonian Academy of Arts. Kristina on the other hand is a jewellery artist with the background in choreography, and running Iida fashion and jewellery gallery in the Old Town of Tallinn (Suur-Karja 2)

Many world famous fashion designers work in so called tandem – in the name of success, for example, Viktor Rolf and many other designers have also united their forces. Has the similar way of working started to spread among Estonian fashion designers as well, was asked from Kristina and Lilli.

Do you work as a tandem in general, or you have just united your forces for the presentation of the collection?

Lilli: For the first time we showed our collections in this spring in Iida gallery. In general we work with collections independently, but our studios situate under the same roof, that’s why some kind of synergy is natural.

Kristina: We have been working together for more than half a year. The collections of Lilli Jahilo have been for sale in Iida Gallery since the show in summer.

The common theme in your collection is the feminine line. What is the woman like who inspires you – perhaps you could give a style example on some famous name from history or nowadays?

Lilli said that she is being inspired by strong, intelligent, and independent people with romantic soul. Her favourite period is still 1930. and 40s. ”The first person who comes to my mind is Katherine Hepburn,” she adds.

Kristina is being inspired by an intelligent femme fatale who loves culture, art, and unique creation. ”The content and the form must be in harmony with each other. I love different periods in history but one of my favourite is Renaissance and that both in visual art and in costume history.”
