Do not miss it: KUMU DOCUMENTARY
On the 7th of October at 18.00 movie ”Jack Smith and the Destruction of Atlanti”.
“Kumu Documentary” is a project of regular documentary film screenings initiated by the Black Nights Film Festival and Kumu Art Museum in February 2006. Kumu Documentary is a quality food for thinking people.
Estonia’s must-see movie is back on screen: From 2nd til 8th of October you can see Veiko Õunpuu’s awarded black comedy SÜGISBALL in Sõprus cinema. „Autumn Ball“ tells a tale of human seclusion and the incapability to reach others. But you also find humor and the absurd, and the properly attuned viewer might even find oneself laughing out loud. If I were to define the film, I would say that „Autumn Ball“ is a pitch black comedy about loneliness, despair and hope.
Veiko Õunpuu was selected to appear in the book ”10×10 Film” in The US. This book contains 100 today’s most interesting directors. It is published by Phaidon Press, a reputable publisher and it should be available in spring 2010. Unfortunately the movie is in Estonian with Russian subtitles in the cinema, but it is possible to order a DVD with English translation from Sõprus cinema, tel: (+372 64 66 332).
Dance and theatre- dance theatre in Kanuti Gildi SAAL.
On Saturday, 10th of October at 19.00: Three days of NO POLITICS:
JEVGENI FOKIN “Soviet swans”
During the showings of the diploma works by students from Tallinn University choreography department in spring 2009 it was Fokin’s “Soviet Swans” – a camp combination of soviet poplore with classic melodies that had the most direct contact with the audience. Now it is back at Kanuti Gildi SAAL.
Soviet swans are not like ordinary birds, they are personal – they come from deep inside and life itself. By reconstructing history the author tries to convey to the audience the time space of the Soviet period when symbols had crucial relevancy. A youngster from 21st century is cast into recent history (into the time of Soviet occupation in Estonia) with all his present life experience – into time where time and people are in contrast.
”What is the most constant thing in Soviet Union?”
”Temporary difficulties.”
Listen to good music and do good: On the 8th of October at 19.00: Estonia’s Cancer Union’s charity concert, which this year is devoted for The Beatles’ creation. Drummer Toomas Rull is considered one of the most interesting drummers in Estonian modern music. He is a teacher and a member of several jazz and rock groups. His latest album „Tom-Tomm / Toomas Rull“ also features a „play along“-style textbook.
