This one and some other changes in the values of Estonian residents were presented yesterday on the event organized by Estonian Cooperation Assembly on subject of „Long term impact of crisis time decisions. “
Sociologist Andrus Saar presented a recent study stating that Estonians are not so positive about the current situation.
22% of them would like to leave abroad and among those who have already left (to work, study, live) there is a remarkable number of educated people.
If in the beginning of the year, 8% of the interviewed gave a positive opinion about Estonian labor market, then now this number has declined twice.
64% of residents consider unemployment being the greatest concerns in Estonia and 57% consider economical situation being top issue.
Only 5% (lowest in EU) think that Estonian government can effectively handle the crisis whereas most trusted is EU (26%), IMF (16%) and USA (10%)
44% think that Estonia is moving in the wrong direction while 30% consider the opposite.
And more than five fifths of the expatriates in Estonia would like to go too.
22% intending to leave with no concrete plans isn’t a big number, actually. More interesting to me was that only 10% of respondents in Estonia consider support to the poor an important measure ( EU average is 20%). Estonian society is lacking solidarity.
