MEPs from Poland and the former Chairman of the Commission on International Affairs of the European Parliament Jacek Saryush-Wolski have in fact declared that they think Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves could be a suitable candidate for the Presidency of the European Union.

According to Mr. Saryush-Wolski the position of the presidency would be perfect if covered by the President of one of the small Member States and Ilves should be considered as an authoritative candidate as because his political skills as because of the effective education he received in U.S.

Saryush-Wolski indicated also in the Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs Carl Bilt  – also who, in the past, covered also the office of Prime Minister – as a valid alternative to Ilves explaining that both of the politicians carry views similar to the Polish ones.

At this point it would be interesting to know how much the French or German élite would support a European President whom received his education in United States.
