Estonia May Not Participate in Eurovision 2010

Estonia could reject the option to participate in Eurovision 2010 due to the cut of 7% in the budget decided by the Ministry of Culture towards the national broadcaster. Estonia may make the national pre-selection and finally not send the winner at the festival, which this year will be held in Oslo.

“Giving up Eurovision participation in 2010 is being discussed because of the 28-million kroons cut of ERR budget but the final decision has not yet been made” said Mrs. Anneli Tõevere-Kaur, the ERR media relations manager.

If this happens, Estonia will be the third country to withdraw from the competition, after that Hungary – due to financial problems – and Czech Republic – due their bad results and poor audience – finally decided not to attend the event.

It also seems that some other countries might decide to give their participation up as there are some ongoing discussions about Eurovision in Andorra (due to budget cuts), Lithuania and Moldova (economic problems), Macedonia (not agree with the voting system in the semifinal) and Armenia (as a protest against Azerbaijan for a few alleged cases of interference in the voting).

I think it is right that countries are refused to participate!

Europe needs a transparent and honest music contest!
The competition, which give an opportunity to discover a new and talented musicians.

In fact, there is an alternative – a new European music contest EuroVoice.

Organizers have developed a new voting system, so that everyone who gave their voices will be safe in the knowledge that the results won't be fixed. I'm looking forward to the opening of registration on their EuroVoice.tv web-portal …

  3. I don't agree on what you said about the functioning of Eurovision as , after all, I do not find it so bad..

The problem is that Russia, this year, marked a no-way-back point with the gigantic show they produced. Hopefully no one will be idiot enough to emulate them and spend so much -public- money on a music contest..

Eurovision is not "an evil" but year after year it's becoming obsolete. I support a transparent and honest competitions, because I believe, it could help young and really talented musicians to become famous.

A huge amount of money could be lost "on a show", and in this part I agree with you completely …

The question is whether the new contest to reach such capacity to deal with old mainstream format.
