While Keskerakond gets closer to the real chair the party aims to – no, Tallinn City Council is not enough – Estonia starts discovering its own realpolitik and the side effects of clashes it probably could not afford.
Trying to increase the amount of Russian tourists visiting the country – over 80,000 in 2008 – Enterprise Estonia will start on Monday a massive campaign to explain the resources Estonia can offer.
The campaign, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund will cost 4 million EEK and will explain to people in St.Petersburg that Estonia has many alternatives to the Capital Tallinn and can therefore candidate itself to satisfy a different need of – Russian – needs.
Tarmo Mutso, Enterprise Estonia tourism development centre director, seemed optimistic about the initiative that will last till the 30th of November and will focus mainly on Tallinn, Tartu and Pärnu.
The idea of bringing more tourists from Russia is surely pleased by all the operators of the sector who are still suffering for the ideological divisions arise after 2006 events but the name chosen for the project “Estonia is closer than it seems” might turn out to be deceptive at least.
And who tried the “road” between Ivangorod and St.Petersburg knows that Estonia is possible even farer than how it seems.
