Leo Clubs and Selver Together for Students
According to Postimees, young members of LEO clubs are collecting school supplies all over Estonia this week to help families with many children in need.
People can donate school supplies in Selver supermarkets all over Estonia.
Supplies are collected in Ringtee Selver and Anne Selver in Tartu, in Kadaka, Pirita and Järve Selver in Tallinn, in Ülejõe Selver in Pärnu and in Männimäe Selver in Viljandi.
„In each and every Selver, that joined the campaign, our LEO- club members are asking people to buy at least one – ore more school supplies and then donate them to their fundraising box,“ said the leader of the campaign and Eesti LEO’s last president, Marite Promvalds.
In the course of this campaign about 10 shopping cart’s full of supplies from pencils to schoolbags have been already collected. Promvalds added that also unused school supplies from homes are quite welcome.
Promvalds said that on the first few days people were just curious about what was going on in the first place and things slowly changed with an increased involvement of people. „Making the donation is easier for people when they go back to the store for the second time.“
The Union of Large Families of Estonia will hand out the donated items to families during the first and second week of September.
The aim of this project initiated by LEO clubs, is to support large families and to value education. There are currently about 4000 families with four or more children living in Estonia. „ It’s inevitable that kids have to go to school. But that of course needs a lot of money and by collecting these school supplies we want to help families in need to reduce their burden at least a little bit,“ said Promvalds.
